Solar Power and Clean Energy
Under the Maldivian sun, the island’s solar installation generates approximately 2.054 million kWh of clean energy each year. This is equivalent to the carbon sequestration of 69,916 trees. State-of-the-art batteries store the energy, which keeps the island powered day and night and adds a clean, quiet touch to barefoot luxury.
Resident Marine Biologist
Veligandu works with Ocean Dive Center to give guests a closer look at life beneath the waves. Led by the resident marine biologist, guests can meet manta rays in their natural habitat, snorkel and learn about the marine environment through experiences designed with sustainability in mind. The Coral Restoration Project is also part of this work.
Desalination and Water Bottling
The island produces its own glass-bottled drinking water through an on-site desalination and bottling plant. This removes single-use plastic bottles, cuts carbon emissions and supplies fresh water throughout the resort.
Minimising Single-Use Plastic
Plastic straws, utensils and beverage bottles have been eliminated, and single-use plastic is kept to a minimum in daily operations. Sustainable, biodegradable alternatives are used instead, which helps keep harmful debris and microplastics out of the ocean.
Responsible Pampering with Eco-Friendly Amenities
Bath amenities carry Veligandu’s signature Vlustrus fragrance and come in biodegradable, refillable wheat husk bottles and glass containers. In partnership with Healing Earth, Himyen Spa offers two bespoke eco-collections that combine wellness, luxury and conscious care. The products use bio-identical actives, organic oils and fair-trade botanicals.
